THERMOWOOD PRODUCTS

Our long experience in supplying wood to all types of wood transformer has made us aware of the sometimes irrational management of the material - especially concerning exotic woods for interior purposes.

Affected by this awareness , we have decided to find alternative solutions to privilege "local" woods, such as oak, ash, beech, fir and even poplar. Our method consists in thermal heating the varieties of wood above, in order to offer a coherent range of woods for exterior use.

 The process of thermal heating is to place the wood in a very high temperature oven equipped with a steam cooling system. In this case, the wood originally hydrophilic (spongy) becomes hydrophobic (impermeable), after having been heated to temperatures over 215°C.

The temperature and the thermal heating cycles vary according to the type of wood (broad-leaved or coniferous), and also according to its final use: boarding, terrace, parquet, furniture).

The strong performance of the thermal heating equipment and a good handling of the process permits the marketing of a high quality product thanks to its resistance against rotting.

 The process ensures:

A greater dimensional stability,
The rate of humidity is brought down to 3/4 %, instead of 10/12% after being put into the drier which really limits the effects of dilation and shrinkage, but also the damage caused by time.

The wood's durability improves,
It resists better to mould and rotting, and can be used in conditions corresponding to the levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the European norm EN 335-2.

The material becomes harder
Which does not prevent finishing work such as planing, sanding and cuts.

A tint dark or light according to the time of the thermal heating and the applied temperature (230°C).

This process gives it a lovely homogeneous colour : "honey to chocolate" tint depending on the variety.

The thermal heating process guarantees an outdoor wood perfectly environmentally-friendly for the following reasons:

The wood supply is made from forests situated in the Northern hemisphere and sorted and certified with the environmental norms FSC or PEFC.

During the thermal heating process, there is no exogenous contribution made (only steam is used)

The final product stays natural and has a pleasant feel.

We can supply you with the raw wood before manufacturing, or else finished in the dimensions requested

Assembly and maintenance

The installation of the terraces is done with clipped or screwed blades depending on your choice, and always on backing strips.

The thermal heated wood discolors and becomes grey through time due to ultraviolet rays, as it does to all types of wood subdued to the weather.

Solutions do exist, when coming out of the oven, to keep the wood's original color. We can recommend some products which will impregnate the wood and help to slow down the climatic effects.
